WHEY AYE C/DC - THE NORTH EAST TRIBUTE TO AC/DC AND BRIAN JOHNSON

BALLBREAKING NEWS

Posted September 2008

Well, another couple of gigs done and dusted. Last Thursday at the Grange in Sunderland went well, but unfortunately due to a refurbishment at the venue (ie. 3 partition walls being put up) the band had one hell of a tight fit to get into the space allocated to us, and all told it just isn't really suited to host live music. We won't be back there, but thanks to everyone who made the trip to see us mid-week. The gig itself went great, despite us having to play to 3 seperate areas of the pub. Special thanks to Linda Cross for all her help though, and if you're reading this Linda, ignore those wankers having a go at you on the music forums - you do a fantastic job and we certainly appreciate it.

Friday at the Pemberton in Seaham was another story though. Always a cracking venue and crowd and this time was no exception. A brilliant night was had by all, and to make it extra special, we had a support band in the guise of the Toxic Pixies, who played a superb set of self-penned tunes and covers. Despite their youth, they are without a doubt going to be huge in the future due to the sheer amount of talent they are showing.

A big thank you from all the lads in Whey Aye C/DC to the Pixies and you all certainly deserved the applause and praise you got when your set was finished. Canny bunch of young uns and if you ever get the chance - gan see them.

Thanks again to Dave Lunn of Sabbatica and Steve Wright from Captain Rock, who guest vocalled on a couple of numbers. It was like having Ozzy doing Bon Scott at one point. Marvellous.

Also, cheers to Graeme Wall (my old mucker from the Back in Black days) who guested on You Shook Me (again). Great drummer and a true gent.

PHOTOS OF THE NIGHT TO FOLLOW - KEEP CHECKING BACK

Next up for us- Crook FC on Saturday 20th Sept with Adam Bomb. Never seen this bloke before but by all accounts he puts on a great show.

Hope to see you there.

Thanks to all who came along to the Office last Friday, on such a pissy wet evening. The place was about as full as it could get and the gig went great. Special thanks to Colin for doing the PA for us. A true pro who got us a brilliant, loud mix. Our lugs are still ringing.....

These comments about the gig were posted on a local live music forum:

"What can I say, what a bloody good gig..... as you would expect from the north east, nay, the country's greatest AC/DC tribute!! Sound quality was as close to perfect as you could expect, song selection was perfect, they kept the crowd in the palm of their hands, and as for entertainment value -  well what can I say….All the usual were played, and in an amazing fashion - as if we would expect anything less from this lot!!"

"Great gig - thoroughly enjoyed it!! It's only the 2nd time I've seen this band, but I think they're tremendous - they all give 150% (straight through a 2 & a 1/2hr set without a break!) - good music/banter & the visuals are excellent. Cheers, lads - loved it!!"

(thanks to Weaselguy and Manticore).

On Friday 12th September, we're playing the Pemberton Arms in Seaham with some very special guests - The Toxic Pixies. Anyone who came along to the Derwentside charity gig we played a few weeks back will recognise them straight away. A very talented band ranging in ages from 12 through to 14 playing some great cover versions as well as a couple of self penned tunes.

Come along and see what a great set of talented kids they are. They'll be hitting the stage about 8.30pm.

Oh, nearly forgot -  we're playing as well.....

Next gig - THE OFFICE, SOUTH SHIELDS, Friday 22nd August.

We're filling up the gig diary for next year, so if any venue would like to book the band, click here.

Well, another gig out of the way - and what a gig it was. Sat 9th August saw us back at NIKH'S bar in  Blyth. What a fantastic venue and the place was absolutely heaving. Barely standing room only and probably one of the best crowds we've had the privilege of playing to.

(photos courtesy of Tony Lancaster - more can be seen in the GALLERY or at www.nikhs.co.uk)

Special thanks to Rob, (the bloke who books the bands) for all of his hard work in sorting out bookings etc, and to Nicky the owner for the free drinks, and hospitality. A more welcoming venue / owner you would be hard pushed to find.

Rob had this to say about the gig:

"Well, thought I'd seen it all this past year at Nikhs..........WRONG!

Just witnessed a band, a show, a crowd, and an atmosphere that says these lads have just slightly edged their way to being called the very best we've had the good fortune of having at Nikh's , and mind, there have been some contenders!

To edge the reigning champs (in my opinion) took some impressing, but Daz, Graeme (x2) in fact the whole bliddy band should take a bow, well done, so glad you guys enjoyed yourselves, it showed!!!

And the x factor for last nite? I never new we had a mosh pit, but that extra final encore brought the roof down, didn't know who was in the band there were that many folk dancing round the instruments, in fact one pretty face even helped graeme hit the skins?? A flippin marvelous sight, wonder if it can be repeated?  I have to say the sound was thumpingly superb, so a big thanks to the engineer (dave)

We all loved Back n Black, but WHEY AYE have worked bliddy hard to move it on, and on last nites performance and attitude, they rightly deserve their title as the best ac/dc trib you are likely to see anywhere!! "

Thanks Rob / Nikh's - and we're already looking forward to coming back.

Special thanks also to Graeme Wall for depping on drums for us as Neil was away on his holidays. Cheers mate, you did us proud.

Photos to follow - keep checking the Gallery.

Saturday 2nd we played a charity gig at the Derwentside Inn, Blackhill, Consett. This was in aid of Motor Neurone disease and a very worthy cause. The event was organised by Dave Lunn, of Sabbatica, and featured two other bands - The Toxic Pixies, and This Machine. We had a thoroughly enjoyable night, and all 3 bands played to a packed, hot and very sweaty pub. A very big thanks to every one who attended and made it such a success - and in the end over £1000 was raised for charity.

Give that man a cigar. Or a medal... take a bow Mr.Dave Lunn of Sabbatica, who organised the whole shebang at very short notice.

More photos to be posted in the GALLERY over the next few days.

Please note that our gig at Sleepers in Boldon Sunday night has been cancelled. This is due to work commitments (one of us has to travel down to Birmingham at short notice) and unfortunately couldn't be avoided. Apologies to the venue and to Linda Cross, and to anyone who was intending coming along to see us. It will be rearranged for a future date..

Many thanks to everyone who came along to Houghton Buffs Club last night. Yet another blinding gig and a huge turnout. Photos have been added to the gallery from both the Buffs and Nuke The Monkey Rally gigs, as well as some older ones from Rochdale Transport Club.

Check out the gallery and find out what the hell this (below) was all about. The cleaning lady still hasn't recovered.............

Thanks to all who came to see us at Elgin's last night. A cracking turn out and what a gig!! To all the Whitby crowd and the bikers from the Elwick rally - we salute you! Thanks again, and we really look forward to going back there. Photos to follow....

Next up, Houghton Buffs this Friday (1st August).

Well, we're all geared up for our trip down to Elgin's in Redcar tonight (29th). Heard nothing but good reports about the place, so we're really looking forward to it. Also, we've a busy weekend ahead with Houghton Buffs on Friday, The Derwentside Charity Event Saturday and Sleepers Sunday night. Then back to work on Monday morning. Rock n' roll..........

Please note that our gig on Sunday 17th August at the Big Jug in Durham City has been postponed and will be rearranged asap. The gig coincided with the Man Utd v  Toon match which is being shown on the big screen, which obviously would've caused some problems. We'll post the new date as soon as it's arranged.

THANKS FROM THE BAND:

On behalf of the band, I'd like to give a massive thankyou to the HARTLEPOOL MISFITS MCC who booked us to play last weekend at their 12th NUKE THE MONKEY RALLY, down at Elwick.

Without a word of a lie, it was probably one of the best gigs we (and myself) have EVER done. The crowd were fantastic and it's always a privilege and a pleasure to perform in front of such an appreciative and vocal  audience. Gannin' daft from the word go - these guys know how to have a good time and enjoy their live music. The rally itself was very well organised, the hospitality superb and we had such a great time that 3 of us actually stayed for the weekend in a tent. Good to see so many familar faces too, with some of the lads from the Moonshiners and the Wanderers, and the mad Whitby lot that we see from time to time at our gigs. We hope to see you all again soon.

Pics from the Nuke The Monkey Rally, 26th July 2008. Thanks to the Moonshiners MCC and Praetorians MCC for the photos

Absolutely brilliant, and it really made up for the shite less than enjoyable gig we had at Easington Lane the week before. Nowt wrong with the venue or owners, just a distinct lack of rock and live music fans,  with the place instead being filled with 'inebriated locals' who kept asking us to play Oasis all night. Graham's still recovering from the 'incident' which saw 2 pissed up grannies try to rip his shorts off by pinning him to the ground. Not only were we shocked and appalled at this behaviour, we will be posting video footage of it on the site in the next few days, as it was funny as f*ck.

More crack about the Misfits Rally will be posted also in the next few days, as we've got a few photos to download showing what a laugh we had. I might even do a 'diary' of the weekend if I've got time (although looking at our gig list for the next week, that might have to take a back seat for a week or two).

Roll on Elgin's............

We've been asked to headline a charity event in aid of Motor Neuron disease at the Derwentside, Blackhill, Consett on Sat 2nd August. All proceeds will go to charity and there will be other bands confirmed for the event including the Toxic Pixies.

Many thanks to Dave Lunn (of the brilliant Sabbatica) for asking us and we're honoured to have been considered. Fortunately we were free that date and jumped at the chance to help out such a good cause. So come along and support the event and hopefully it'll raise some money for charity and awareness of this terrible disease, which sadly the landlord of the Derwentside was suffering from before he passed away.

More band and event details to be posted - keep checking back.

Some of the more astute amongst you may have noticed that between 26th July and 3rd August we have 5 gigs. Well, we're a bit daft like that - but spare a thought for our drummer Neil, who has gigs Sat 26th, Tues 29th, Thurs 31st, Fri 1st, Sat 2nd and Sun 3rd due to him being in another band - NORD. They're playing the Angel in Durham Thurs 31st July, so if you like a bit of doom metal get yourselves along.

Live at the ANGEL INN, DURHAM, THURSDAY 31st JULY.

It's not often we play a gig mid-week, but in the case of the Quaker House in Darlington, we were really looking forward to it. A wet, miserable Wednesday night weather-wise, but once again the small venue with the big live music following didn't disappoint. I worked out that it was 3 years since I was last down there, and I'll definitely not leave it quite so long before I (or the band) go back. Good to see some familiar faces, including Marty, Brian and Steve. Sorry we couldn't do the cannons, but there's hardly enough room to fit the band in the Quaker, let alone half the stage gear. The new backdrop got an airing though and looked the biz - cheers to Chris for sorting it out.

Next was the 3 Tuns in Gateshead. A great venue for live music in the North East, where Paul (the landlord) deserves a medal for tirelessly promoting both established and up-and-coming newer bands. He offered us 3 dates for this year and we jumped at the chance to play them.

We have a standing joke in the band that whenever we play a gig it rains. None of us can remember any gig, except maybe one or two, where it hasn't been pissing it down when we've arrived at the venue. Add to the mix that it was one of the most humid nights of the year and it's understandable that the place wasn't quite as chocka as what it normally is. (also the brilliant Slip Of The Tongue played the night previously). However, it went extremely well and alot of the audience were proper die-hard DC fans, which gave the room a great atmosphere. We had a great night and thanks to the lad who was drafted in at short notice to do the sound for us (and had to miss out on a family party - poor sod) and also thanks to PMSBULL for his review of the gig, which can be found on our reviews page. Lastly I must mention the couple of lads at the front who nearly dropped their pints when Neil set off the cannons. Nice to see they have the desired effect.....

Photos from some previous gigs are currently being 'tarted up' and will be posted shortly, along with news of other gigs being arranged.

The band have been taking a couple of weeks off, but as there's no rest for the wicked -  Dean (our rhythm guitarist) hasn't had the luxury of a break, as he's been busy with his other band - The Tygers Of Pan Tang.

If you ever get the chance to check them out, then I would really recommend you do as they're an excellent band and deserve the accolades and rave reviews they've been getting recently.

Their new album 'Animal Instinct' is available now, and can be purchased from their website www.tygersofpantang.com, and you can also find tour dates, news and other merchandise on there.

(Though I've been waiting for a t-shirt for the last 3 months and it's yet to materialise)

Also, tickets are now on sale for our gig on Wednesday 9th July at the Quaker House, Darlington. They can be purchased from the venue for £5 in advance, or £6 on the door.

Thanks to all who came along to see us at the Ropery on Sunday afternoon. First time this band have played outdoors and we were a bit worried at first when the sky clouded over and the wind picked up. But the weather held out, it didn't rain and we had a really enjoyable gig. A special mention must go out to the kids who came along to see us, as any other time they wouldn't have got to see us as we would've been playing indoors. Being outside meant that under 18's could get to watch the show, and it was great to see them all rocking along to the band. Hopefully some photos of the gig will be posted on the site soon (along with some from the Rochdale gig).

Also, thanks again to John who got up and played a few numbers with us. Much appreciated and you did us proud again mate. Cheers.

After a short break for a couple of weeks, our next gig is Wed 9th July at the Quaker House in Darlington, Co.Durham. A midweek gig and it's a smallish venue so tickets are strictly limited and available from the Quaker at £6.00 each, either in advance or on the door. I've played there with two previous bands (Matrix and Back in Black) and it's a canny gig. Very appreciative punters who love their rock music, and one of the best selections of beers and real ales this side of the Pennines. We hope to see a few familiar faces there and Chris (bass) is especially looking forward to it as it's the first time we've played in his home town of Darlington. Hope to see you there.

Well, another gig done and dusted, and this time it was out of the North East and away down to the Transport Club in Rochdale. Now, the first time I ever ventured down there with my previous band, there was a reasonable turn-out for our first gig there but nowt spectacular. (It got busier and busier every time we went down there, but it did take a few visits to drum up a following). This time however, the concert room was pretty full and by 9pm the atmosphere was electric. It was a really enjoyable night and we look forward to going back there later in the year. Thanks to Barry for the booking and thanks to Gamb and his mate who not only took 4 of us over there in his van (more on that later) but did us proud with a fantastic PA mix. Geet loud and crystal clear - much appreciated.

However...... the poor sods were probably about demented by the time we got back in the early hours of Saturday morning, as they'd had Neil snoring in the back for 2 + hours with Kebab and Garlic Sauce dribbled down his front, and me and Chris singing the 'Rawhide' theme over, and over, and over, and over (you get the picture) most of the way home. I think the joke was wearing thin a bit though after a fifth rendition of 'You Can Call Me Al' by Paul Simon, and I think one of them was ready to swing for us. Cheers again lads, and we look forward to doing it again (although we bet you two don't).

Graham, fast asleep in the van on the way to Rochdale.

I must give a mention to our guitarist Dean, as he had a nightmare getting to the gig. The rest of us were fairly organised (for once). We all finished work, met at a pre-arranged point and all hopped into Gamb's van for the trip over, a few tins of beer and good crack.

Dean, driving like the clappers to get home from work, and Chris, treating himself to a well-earned bottle of beer last Friday.

Dean on the other hand, was working in Bradford that day and we thought (logically) that he would be going straight from work to Rochdale. A small drive that should have taken him about half an hour. Not if Dean's boss had anything to do with it though, and flatly told him that he had to bring his work's van home to Durham that night and there was no way he could use it for 'personal' use (ie. going to a gig). So....as we were driving over the M62 around 5pm, Dean was high-tailing it the other way to take his van home, swap it for his car, then drive back over to Rochdale for the gig. Like a true pro he managed to get back to the venue for around 8pm in time for the soundcheck and a breather before we were due onstage. Nice one mate, and we all appreciate it.

Our next gig is the Ropery in Sunderland this Sunday (15th) afternoon. It's a 4pm start, and hopefully it'll be a good gig. If it's owt like the Sleepers or The Grange gigs through there, it should be. DAZ

Thanks to Paul and Bernie and Davy's Rock Page.

Posted May 2008

Well what can we say about the last two gigs? You'd think a Thursday night in Sunderland would be relatively quiet, but by god you'd be wrong. The Grange last week was absolutely heaving and we had by far and away the most enjoyable gig in that area we've ever played.

The gig itself was in a bit of jeopardy earlier that week as Daz was really suffering with a chest infection / heavy cold and by Tuesday he had lost his voice completely and had been in bed for 3 days sweating buckets. Credit where credit's due though and he decided to go ahead with the gig, albeit in a 'slightly more subdued' manner. We needn't have worried though, and although he looked like death warmed up and smelled like an explosion in a Vicks Vapo-rub Factory, he soldiered on and did us proud. Good on yer mate.

The Pemberton on Friday night was another superb gig, and this time it was Neil, our drummers turn to be dying of man-flu. Of course he was blaming Daz for catching his 'lurgy' but like a trooper he belted the hell out of his kit and never flagged once. Between the pair of them they probably went through two bog-rolls blowing their noses and generally whining about feeling grotty, but they pulled it out the bag when it mattered and we had yet another great gig at this venue.

Special thanks to John, who joined us on stage for a couple of numbers at the Grange on Thursday night (Dean was in his element, sitting in the crowd with a pint), and thanks to Graeme Wall, (ex Back in Black with Daz) who got up to play You Shook Me All Night Long on drums Friday night. Both lads did a sterling job and are always welcome to get up for a bash through some numbers with us.

Next Friday we're off to Rochdale to play the Transport Club. Daz has been there a few times with Back in Black but it's a first for us so we're looking forward to it.

Thanks to all who came to see us at the Bebside Inn last Saturday. We had a class night, which we always do up there.

Graham would especially like to thank the dancers at the front, for putting a smile on his (usually) grumpy little face. It's a good job we brought his litter tray and scratching post or he might have got a bit ower-excited.

(he'll gan mad with us for putting this on the site).

Graham, getting a bit ower excited, while Daz splutters his way through the rest of 'Whole Lotta Rosie' (Neil grinning like a loon obscured by his cymbals).

Next gig - The Grange in Sunderland. We've never been there before, but we've heard canny reports so we're looking forward to it. Check gig guide for further gigs, more are being added all the time.

Well, not really, but we thought it was funny, especially the one of Dean. Which looks real.

Last week saw us play the Grand Hotel in Bishop Auckland. One of our very favourite venues and always a pleasure to play there. Simon (landlord) is always welcoming and we really enjoyed the gig.

Thanks to all who turned up to see us, and to partake in the Beer Festival / BBQ. Also a big thank you to Nige and Val from RIFFS who came along to see us purely for a social night out, rather than to review the band. It was great to see them both, and we appreciate them giving up a 'night off' in effect to come along to the gig.

Next up - THE BEBSIDE INN in sunny Blyth, Northumberland. A mint place to play as it's a proper bikers bar and we hope to see a few of our good friends from the Blyth XXXX Crew there.

Finally, we've nearly managed to have our second forum taken off us for 'misuse' (ie. stupid topics and postings), so if you decide to have a look, please remember that it's got alot of adult content in it and is not meant to be taken seriously  - as unlike other forums, we didn't set it up to get our mates and band members to post comments telling us how great we are, but rather just to take the piss, sit back, and wait to see how long it is before the hosts remove it. They've already deleted half of our topics so we must be doing something right. Or wrong, whatever is the case.

Til next time.

PS - There was something on www.acdc.com about AC/DC releasing a new album later this year. Neil can hardly contain his excitement.

Well,  another bank holiday weekend out of the way and another canny gig. This time it was Sleepers in Boldon. I’ve played there in previous bands so I had half an idea what it would be like. To be honest, we were expecting it to be quiet as 9pm on a bank holiday Monday isn’t the ideal time to be playing a gig, as anyone with any sense would’ve been out on the piss all day and buggered off home well before 9pm. The Toon v Chelsea match on Sky at 4pm wouldn’t have helped either. (I missed it, due to getting sorted for the gig, but we lost 2-0 so it was probably a good thing).

Anyway, we turned up and it was one of the most enjoyable gigs we’ve played so far. No hassle, nee stress, just turn up, plug in, play and entertain. It was a load busier than what I expected and the crowd were very appreciative. A special mention goes to the guy who was sat on his own wearing an AC/DC t-shirt all night. As soon as we kicked off with Riff Raff, the bugger was bouncing around the place like a rubber ball on crack. A canny bloke though, as we were talking to him afterwards.

Our next gig is at the Grand Hotel in Bishop Auckland, Co.Durham this Friday (9th). It was due to be at Whitworth Hall which is near Spennymoor, but for reasons unbeknownst to us, the venue got shifted at the last minute. As far as we’re aware, it’s £3.00 entry on the door and there’s a beer festival / bbq for everyone to enjoy. We’ll be hitting the stage around 9.15pm and playing a full 2 hour + show, straight through, nee breaks.

Hope to see you there.

Daz

PS - The 'forum' has been a huge success. In fact, the hosts should be taking it off us in the very near future, due to our repeated 'misuse'. Some folk have nee sense of humour.....

A big thank you to everyone who came along to the Horseshoe in Crook Saturday night. We were a bit apprehensive about this gig as there were a couple of other excellent bands playing in the same town that night, but our worries were unfounded as the place was bloody chocka. It was a lot bigger than what we remembered from playing there in our previous bands, and it's always canny to have a large stage area to set up on. Complete with Saturday night fever lighty-up floor tiles. Classy.

The only downside was not being able to soundcheck until the restaurant tacked onto the side of the venue had closed - at 9.00pm which made our arrival time at the place at 6.30pm a bit pointless. Never mind....we'll know for next time (6th September if our gig guide is correct).

We'd like to say a special thanks to the crew from Whitby who travelled all the way up to see us. Hope you had a good night and we'll see you again soon. Also, we must take our hats (well, a stinking flat cap) off to our stand-in guitarist Alex who did us proud. Thanks mate.

Next gig is Sleepers in Boldon on Bank Holiday Monday (5th) May. We think it's an afternoon 3pm start, but aren't sure as Daz sorted out the booking and his heed's all ower the place this week cos he's moving house. We'll clarify the start time and post it on the site asap.

Next up is The Horseshoe in Crook, Co.Durham on Sat 19th April. A small venue but a great atmosphere, complete with Saturday Night Fever-style stage area with lighty-up floor tiles. We always enjoy playing in that neck of the woods, as not only is it Graham's stomping ground, but also I've played some canny gigs there over the years in different bands.

Dean, our regular 'Malcolm Young' can't be with us that night as he's away demonstrating the benefits of 'Soul-Glo' and NWOBHM metal-mayhem with the Tygers of Pantene, sorry Pan-Tang (and probably getting paid loads more than us), so we've acquired the services of another guitarist - Alex, who is a huge DC fan and knows the songs inside out. He's also 19 years old, and is a 'good looking f*cker' according to our resident lothario / dog-in-heat, Graham. Graham's also a bit worried that Alex's mere presence will prove a distraction to all the nubile young women in the crowd (if any) and will stop them from going all swoony over his Angus Young on-stage-antics. So if you're coming to the gig, fetch along a KFC bargain bucket for Graham. If nowt else it'll put a smile on his face and stop him from fretting about yet another band-member being more good looking than him. For at least 10 minutes anyway...

Hope to see you Saturday.

PS - Graham also likes Pizza, Chips, Pop, Crisps, Strippers, Lapdancers, Dogging, Voyeurism and Pickled Onion Monster Munch. Just in case KFC is shut.

Due to been completely misused, abused and filled with funny, yet offensive material - Proboards have taken our forum off us. Congratulations to all who contributed (mostly band members) and gave us the dubious distinction of being banned from ever using a proboards forum ever again.

Well done lads. Although personally we can't see why discussion threads about lesbians, beer and animal sex should be considered offensive in this day and age.

Our next gig is the Olde Horseshoe in Crook, County Durham on 19th April. Crook is always a great place to play and hopefully we'll see a few familiar faces there.

If anyone turned up to see us at the Board Inn at Stanley last week - we were double booked by the landlord, and so we're going to have to rearrange the gig for later in the year. The bugger only got in touch to tell us 3 days before we were due to play though, which was a bit of a pisser...so on second thoughts, we won't bother rearranging it.

IIt was filmed on a mobile phone by an audience member, so the sound and picture quality aren't ower clever - but it's got a 'bootleg' feel to it that we quite liked, so keep checking back and it'll be up shortly.

Thanks to everyone who turned up to see us at the 3 Tuns in Gateshead Saturday gone. We had a brilliant night, and special thanks to Paul for booking us in the first place. The pub is a 'proper' live music venue, with a fantastic in-house rig and lights. Also, it pulls in a very appreciative audience and we were bowled over by the reception we got - thanks again.

(A review of the gig can be found on the REVIEWS page of the site. Thanks to PMSBULL.)

The gig was recorded professionally, and is currently being mixed so we should be posting some 'live' MP3s up on the site for your listening pleasure - and when i say 'live' we mean 'live'. Not tinkered with, overdubbed or over-produced - just exactly how it sounded on the night. (Despite Graham's protestations that he wanted to correct the odd duff note etc.. which totally defeats the object methinks...).

If it's any good we might end up flogging it at gigs. You never know....

Next up is the Office at South Shields on 7th March. We're not going too mad with gig bookings as a couple of us have shift patterns to work, families etc.. and also we've got some serious rehearsing to do as we've got about 12 new songs to add to our list and need to find time to get them sorted. Gives you summat to look forward to though eh? Anyway, we hope to see a few familiar faces there on the night, and once again a big thanks to Colin Smoult for having us back.

Till next time..

I dunno if anyone actually reads the tripe that I post on here, but hello boys and girls, here's an update of what's going down in the next few weeks. Next up is the Ropery in Sunderland (the irony is we're missing the Newcastle match against Boro on Sky cos of playing in Sunderland...) this Sunday. It's a 3.30pm kick off so hoperfully it'll be a canny gig. I played there a few years ago with my previous band and it was a great afternoon, so fingers crossed. Anyway, drinking in the daytime is always a good laugh.....

16th Feb sees us at the 3 Tuns in Gateshead, where we've been really looking forward to playing for a loooooong time. Paul, the landlord is a stand-up bloke and we're really buzzing about playing there. The last time I played there was with Back in Black, so a return is long overdue and we're having the gig professionally recorded, so get your arses along and make some noise for us.

Daz

PS - Buy the latest Wildhearts album. It's bloody brilliant.

PPS - And the Silver Ginger 5 album - Black Leather Mojo. It's even better.

We haven't updated the site much over the last couple of weeks as we've had a few gigs booked, and also the usual Xmas / family shite to get out of the way.

Anyway....NIKH'S at Blyth turned out to be a good night. (pics can be seen in the gallery - and a big thanks to Tony Lancaster). The bar staff were fantastic and a big shout to Rob for booking us. Any band which gets asked to play there should jump at the chance as it's one of the most welcoming venues we've ever had the pleasure to play at. We'll be back there later this year.

Our New Years Eve show at the Grand Hotel in Bishop Auckland was also a roaring success. Sold out and the place was packed out with folk intent on having a great night - and they did just that. Thanks again to Simon, and if you get the chance to check the place out, you'll be impressed. Welcoming atmosphere, one of the best selections of beer this side of Europe and as RIFFS rightly stated - it's becoming a venue that any self respecting band wants to play. We had a great night and thank everyone who bought a ticket and came along to see in the New Year. Neil's still recovering, but that serves the daft twat right for drinking an 8 year old bottle of Sherry out of a half pint glass.

Special mention to Huw, our stand in bassist, who learned the full set at short notice and did a cracking job on the night. Thanks mate.

And by the way....me and Graham knew nowt about the fancy dress shennanigans going on at the end of the set. Instead of AC/DC up there, you got Gene Simmons, Joey Jordison and some ropey slapper in a sequined top with a beer gut hanging out the bottom of it. (Dean, Neil and Huw take a bow...). Thankfully no photos exist of this disturbing sight.

A short break for a few weeks, then we'll be back out making a racket in a venue near you.

All the best for the New Year.

Next up for us is NIKH'S at Blyth on 21st December. We've heard great reports about the venue, and hopefully we'll see some of the familiar faces from the XXXX Crew there that night. Whey Aye C/DC have gone into festive party mode now (well, Daz and Neil have) and aim to have a cracking night at the last few gigs of the year. In fact, here's another photo of Graham, getting into the party atmosphere, complete with his very own 'Rosie'. Arf.....

Graham. Two minutes away from getting a pair of knockers shoved into his face.

Crook FC is up after that on 22nd December and the last time we played there it was one hell of a night. (Apart from Daz banging his head on the ceiling when he decided to be a smart arse and sing from on top of the bass bins. The prat.). As far as we're aware, admission is free for these gigs but Wardley Club on the 28th and our New Years Eve show at the Grand Hotel are both £5.00 entry.  A quick mention to Simon at the Grand - we promise not to trash your pub this year mate, and no fire extinguishers will be set off, honest....

Special thanks to Huw, our new stand in bass player who's done a brilliant job of learning 30 odd songs over the last month. He'll be playing with us on New Years Eve, and any other gigs our permanent bassist Chris can't make (cos of his git important job).

DECEMBER 2007 - continued....

Just to set the record straight (and to silence the jungle drums) - Daz has indeed got himself a new job, but this will in NO way affect any of the band's gigs. What precisely it has to do with anyone else is beyond me, but I don't really give a toss - I'm just explaining it on here before the rumour mill starts going wild - as it has a tendency to do in these here parts.  Which leads me nicely onto......

The reason the Gosforth gig last week had to be pulled was way beyond our control, and we did it as soon as we knew what was happening. We were completely at a loss for what to do. We tried alternative arrangements but unfortunately nothing could be sorted. Anyone moaning about it etc.. can ask themselves the question - a last minute life saving heart operation for our PA bloke  (who is in effect one of the band) or a gig? So anyone wanting to mass-debate this - feel free, just don't bother emailing us about it cos I'm sick of fucking explaining it.

Bah humbug. x

Daz

DECEMBER 2007

Firstly, we'd like to apologise to anyone who was planning to see us at the Blacksmith's Arms in Gosforth last week. We had to pull the gig due to unavoidable circumstances, but to cut a long story short, our resident sound / lights guy Dave - found out at the last minute (literally) he had to go into hospital the day of the gig to undertake a heart operation. We'd like to wish him a speedy recovery and can assure everyone that our other gigs will be going ahead as planned.

THANKS to the Blyth XXXX for one of the best gigs we've ever played. A truly amazing gig and photos will be put up into the gallery in the next few days.

A couple of pics from the XXXX bash. Daz,  looking totally bewildered, and Graham having the time of his life.

More pics can be found in the GALLERY - special thanks to Tony and Warren.

Also - cheers to the Turbinia in Newton Aycliffe was a blinding night last Saturday, and thanks to Gary for booking us and having us back in the New Year.

The bands website address has changed to www.wheyayecdc.co.uk which should be a bit easier to remember. Honest....

It won't be changed again as we've found a suitable web-host which isn't costing us the earth.

We'd like to thank Wardley Social Club for booking us for their end of year bash on 28th December. Tickets are limited and are available from the club for £5.00.

This also applies to our New Years Eve show at the Grand Hotel in Bishop Auckland. Tickets are also limited and are £5 from the venue and should be on sale now.

The gig at the Dalton Park Inn on 8th December has been cancelled by the venue as the landlord has sold up and is moving on.

Posted November 2007

We were having problems with the old web host, so after sorting it out, we're back on line and the site will be updated more regularly. We've just added more songs to the set list, including Fire Your Guns, Thunderstruck and Jailbreak.

Colin Smoult has posted an online review of the band at the recent OFFICE gig in South Shields. You can find it here

Please note that the Blyth XXXX Crew bash at the Golden Eagle, Blyth 30th November is £3.00 cover charge on the door.

The bike crew do alot of charity work so come along and support the club and the venue - there will be a rock disco after the band have finished our set.

Check out the bike club at www.thexxxxcrew.co.uk

Thanks to all who came along to the OFFICE in South Shields to see us last Saturday.  Great gig and thanks again to Colin Smoult for mixing the sound for us. Next up the Grand in Bishop Auckland 16th November, once 3 of us have came back from foreign climes, and is this is one of our favourite venues it promises to be a cracking night. GET THERE EARLY.

Another gig, and another trip to Gosforth to play one of our favourite venues - The Blacksmiths Arms. A proper live music venue with one of the best north eastern crowds you could hope for.

The Blacksmiths Arms - 29th September 2007. Complete with 'tacky f*cking flames' (as Neil put it).

Thanks to Louise for booking us (again) - even though she's now running another pub, and to everyone who turned up and made it such a memorable night. It was good to see Graham - the lad who's birthday bash we played at back in July, and Davy and Kimberley from Davy's Rock Page. (see links).

We changed the set around from the last gig, so Moneytalks and Hard As A Rock got played. Nice to see the lads down the front singing along word for word.   The only downside to the gig was that the pub had stopped selling Stella on draught so the lads had to make do with...

What women and southerners drink. Apparently.

Next up is the OFFICE in South Shields, and with Colin Smoult - of the one and only SHOVELMOUTH - doing the PA and lights for us on the night, it promises to be a good rockin' evening.

We're playing downstairs, as to be honest, it's ower much of a chew on to play upstairs and the atmosphere is loads better downstairs.

Neil's got the cannons sorted but they're far too big to take to the gig, (and I mean BIG) so we'll have to use them somewhere a bit bigger - like Newcastle Arena. He's already champing at the bit to find a venue big enough to use his big 'f*ck-off-drum-kit' just like Chris Slade.

So downstairs it is and we're looking forward to giving more new songs an airing - so if you fancy hearing Jailbreak, Fire Your Guns or summat a bit more obscure then just ask. I divvent bite - honest.

Hope to see you there.

Daz

SEPTEMBER 2007

Tonight we're up at the Blacksmith's Arms in Gosforth. This will be the 3rd or 4th time we've played in that neck of the woods in the last couple of months and we always enjoy playing there.

Last week at the Heart and Soul Rally was a blast and we'd like to thank the Geordie Hog Bike Club for booking us. It was a great gig and we hope to get asked to play there again. As bloody usual I got lost in the labyrinth of corridors backstage and once again had to get changed in the bogs. I did manage to find the band hospitality room though - an hour after the rest of the band did, so there was hardly any beer left. Probably cos we had Shaun playing the gig with us, rather than Deano - who was off playing 'Lick My Love Pump' and being a pretendy rock star and all that etc.. (although I've mentioned that already, I thought I'd get another dig in. arf...)

We'd like to thank this little ray of sunshine for helping us out at the Heart and Soul Rally. Cheers mate.

Another gig date added - 30th November. Thanks to the Blyth XXXX (and Davy) for asking us to play there bi-annual bash at the Golden Eagle. Having played there twice with Back in Black I can't wait to do it again. The bike crew are a great set of lads, so get yourself along and support the club and the venue.

Davy - of the Blyth XXXX Crew - back in good old days. Displaying his enviable party trick of being able to drink and play at the same time

SEPTEMBER 2007

Another gig done and dusted - this time at Crook Football Club in County Durham. What a night it was. We'd like to thank everyone who turned up and made it such a fantastic night, the place was bursting at the seams and we can't wait to get back there at the end of the year. Special thanks as well to Stevie (Captain Rock) who did the sound and lights for us - and got us one hell of a good sound.  Photos and stuff to follow...once I can suss out this f*cking digital camera.

Next up, the Heart and Soul Rally at Gosforth Park Racecourse Saturday coming, where we'll have a special guest on stage with us. Deano - our regular Malcolm Young / Hairdresser can't make the gig as he's off being a spandex wearing-testosterone-fuelled-rock god with the Tygers of Pan Tang, so Shaun, formerly of Back in Black and now of top Quo tribute 'On the Level' is standing in for him for the gig. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Shaun for agreeing to do it (the cheque's in the post mate) and we're all looking forward to a good night.

AUGUST 2007 (again)

If you're wondering where the band name came from -  so are we. We had a shortlist of names, but to be honest there's that many DC tributes springing up around the country calling themselves after song titles etc.. that we just wanted something a bit different. We're all from the North East and thought it would be pretty much identifiable to the people up here. If anyone's interested - here's a list of names that didn't get chosen:

Thunderstruck (too 'song titley')

High Voltage (too 'Bon' - we're a 'Brian' fronted band)

Geordie/DC (too 'Lorne')

The Amazing Graham & Daz Experience and 3 other tw*ts (me and Graham liked it, but decided it was too long)

AC/DAZ C (the other lads didn't like this one for some reason)

NU/FC (my favourite, but we wondered if the proper NUFC would sue us)

Ballbreaker (too 'album titley')

So there you have it. Whey Aye C/DC.

the above logo was discarded as being too 'shite'

Anyway, it can't be any worse than when Back in Black called themselves the 'Bell Ends' for the smaller shows...

AUGUST 2007

Another three gigs under our belts and things are starting to pick up. We're deliberately not taking on too many gigs due to work commitments etc, but we've got some canny shows lined up for the rest of the year now. The Pemberton Arms went well and despite it being a short notice gig the place was bouncing. Thanks to Al, from On The Level for doing the PA and lights for us.

August 11th - two gigs in one night. Are we mental? Aye probably, but it was too good an offer to pass up.

Dean's initial reaction to being told we had two gigs in one night.

Dean. Once he'd been told we weren't actually joking and we DID have two gigs in one night.

We'd arranged to play the Masons in Middlestone Moor that night as a 'thank you' to the landlady, as she's been letting us rehearse there for nowt on a weekly basis. But less than a week before the gig Graham got a phone call from the Wanderers MCC asking us to play their bike rally down in Crook the same night. Now Back in Black played the same event a couple of years ago and it was a great night so we agreed to do it, even though we knew we would have to gan like the clappers to get down there when we'd finished at the Masons. Confused? Aye, so were we, but not as much as Dave our long suffering PA bloke, who had to strip down the rig in record time and hotfoot it down the road to the rally as soon as we'd finished the first gig.

Anyway, the Masons was absolutely chocka and was a brilliant night. Thanks to everyone who made the journey to the middle of nowhere to see us, and we're arranging to play there again sometime this year. I've got to mention the pissed up twat that pranged Graham's car outside the venue then did a runner without leaving any details. If you're going to get away with something like that, make sure your number plate isn't wrapped around the other car's bumper before you take off. Tosser.

So once we'd finished around 11pm and Graham straightened out his car bumper - we all traipsed off to the rally. We got on stage around 12pm and finished around 2.15pm. I'm typing this on the Monday afterwards and I'm still bloody knackered. It was a great night though and thanks to Andy and all the lads at the Wanderers MCC.

JULY 2007

We've just played our debut gig at a surprise birthday party for one of AC/DC's biggest fans - a bloke called Graham from Benwell. A great night was had by all, the band played brilliantly, and everyone went home happy. Although typically, I was the only one who couldn't find the dressing room in the Rugby club we were playing in - and so ended up getting changed in the bog. I got summat wet that smelled like a cat litter tray up the sleeve of my shirt and my socks soaked off the floor. Nice...

Neil, barely able to contain his excitement. 10 minutes before our first ever gig.

So a big thankyou to the the lads who booked us for the party and a special mention to the birthday bloke Graham. Apparently he owns 2 copies of every DC album. One to play and the other to keep in good nick for posterity. What a bloke.

And he used to work with Brian Johnson's brother - Maurice, which was interesting crack.

We got some photos taken off the gig, but Phil the PA bloke was a bit over zealous with the smoke machine, so they look like snapshots from Gorillas in the Mist.

WHEY AYE C/DC, somewhere in the fog. Gosforth Rugby Club.

Getting the backdrop sorted this week, then there's the not-so-small matter of trying to figure out how to cart around the World War 1 Howitzer cannons Neil 'knocked up' in his garden shed. Seriously, the buggers are massive.

Anyway, until next time - I salute you.
